Tailings Disposal Optimisation: Perth
This course evaluates fundamental drivers and variables in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and failures of tailings disposal operations around the world, and teaches how to recognise aspects that can be replicated and benchmarked against.
Key Learning Outcomes:
Learn the fundamental drivers of tailings disposal design. Evaluate various disposal options such as in-pit, underground, dewatering etc. Understand the various geochemical, physical and process characteristics of tailings. Assess the impacts of climate, location and ore type Examine various failures including water management, static stability and foundation. Review global codes of practice guidelines and regulations. Consider site selections, options, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. Insights into construction, supervision and certification. Learn methods of operations management, monitoring and surveillance. Understand the requirements and key elements of a successful closure.
About the Course :
Tailings dams are often the most significant environmental liability for a mining project, and present a long term cost to the mining industry at large. This training course looks at the various key considerations involved with determining an optimal tailings disposal operation the perspective of experts, who will share their experiences from around the world of various different concepts, designs and operations. The fundamental drivers of design and the impacts of various technical variables such as differing ore types, chemical/physical characteristics, locations and climates will be examined. Participants will learn to understand why no two disposals are the same, and develop the skill to recognise aspects that can be replicated and benchmarked against. Current codes of practice guidelines and regulations will be reviewed and methods and studies of disposal configurations, constructions, operations and closures.
