How Cloud is Driving Tomorrow's Digital Government

How Cloud is Driving Tomorrow’s Digital Government -- Cloud computing made early waves in government for its penchant to save agencies money and realize efficiencies inherent in purchasing IT as a service, but cloud has now become integral to a next-generation digital government. The federal government is both a massive consumer and producer of myriad data sets, and cloud computing is rapidly becoming the de facto mechanism for how data is collected, analyzed, disseminated and even repackaged back to agency stakeholders and the public. This event will discuss lessons learned through innovative cloud computing efforts in government, including unique open-cloud efforts that promote open-source,-standards and interoperability.

Panel Sessions on:

The Convergence of Cloud and Open Data -- Cloud computing is changing the way government does open data. The administration’s push to release more of its myriad datasets back to the public through various open data initiatives has created an environment ripe for cloud innovation. Cloud enables agencies to do more with the data they have, whether it’s sharing information back to the masses through APIs or using platforms layered on cloud to develop and build mission critical applications.

Open Cloud in Government: A Discussion -- Integration in the cloud can improve agency operations and fuel innovation. Agencies face challenges in establishing interoperable platforms while making information accessible and secure. Agencies need a robust infrastructure that is open, transparent, and has the right level of isolation to secure the data that needs to be secured while providing open access to the data that is open.

Tapping Agile Platforms to Deliver New Digital Services -- Technology providers and users are embracing new platforms and tools and open data initiatives to drive innovation in government. IBM’s ecosystem of developers are tapping into the power of IBM’s Bluemix platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering based on the Cloud Foundry open source project to rapidly develop and deliver mobile and web apps on the cloud. Hear examples of new apps that capitalize on open data resources from www.data.gov to deliver new digital citizen services.
