This webinar is intended for engineers, project and product managers who need a basic understanding of export controls, particularly EAR and ITAR controls on technical data.  

This webinar will focus on the following topics:

• Identifying exports — a day in the life of an engineer as she supports new product development, provides customer support, provides input on bids and proposals, works on projects with company employees and outside partners worldwide, and travels outside the US for trade shows and demonstrations

• Learning to read the Commerce Control List and US Munitions List  and getting used to the language of export controls

• Understanding the product jurisdiction and classification process 

• How the engineering function fits into a company compliance program.

• When and why engineering engagement is required: jurisdiction, classification and licensing

• Technology control programs: making sure that information is protected against disclosure to unauthorized persons

• Risks of non-compliance

• Case studies: engineers role in jurisdiction and classification analysis,  sample classification exercise, technical requirements for export license submissions, deemed exports, technology control programs

This webinar will provide PowerPoint slides and include live video and commentary from Felice Laird who is a leading expert on US encryption export controls. Webinar participants are invited to submit questions during the webinar; the final 30 minutes of the webinar will be allotted to answering attendees' questions.
