Ready for Launch: New Developments and Critical Aspects of the Indian Export Control System

The Indian export control landscape is shifting, and the approach of companies operating there must adapt accordingly. India’s ongoing efforts to join the multilateral export control regimes over the past 18 months has led to substantial changes to the Indian export control system that will likely prompt additional changes in the near future.  India’s export control lists have undergone major modifications since March 2015, with new items added to the dual-use list and numerous entries altered such that existing classifications may now be out-of-date, as well as an updated List of Military Stores (munitions items). Additionally, the Indian government has introduced online license submission for dual-use exports, established license exemptions for spare parts and stock & sale items, and updated its restrictions on certain nuclear-related exports to Iran.
