Export Control Recordkeeping and Compliance Automation
As companies move to automate most processes, exporters need to make sure that adequate recordkeeping is factored in. Gone are the days when you could keep hard copies of all your export records in filing cabinets in your office. These days you may be required by your company to reduce or eliminate the amount of paper you keep. So how do you go about essentially re-creating paper files in the digital world? How can you use automated compliance tools to enhance your compliance program and retain the right records? What are the government agency's views regarding the extent to which automation is a required compliance element?
This webinar will address this critically important topic of importance to Export Compliance Officers and their legal resources.
The following topics will be covered:
-
Regulatory requirements for recordkeeping for export control agencies – what do the regulations say?
-
What is the government recommending with regard to compliance automation?
-
What transactions and which persons are subject to recordkeeping requirements?
-
Export control documents vs. general commercial records
-
Best practices for recordkeeping in the paperless era
-
Challenges of auditing electronic records
-
Advice for maintaining files for shipping documents, classification, and licensing determinations
-
Recordkeeping for reform-related reclassification decisions
-
Internal mini-audits of export paperwork
-
Challenges of dealing with freight forwarders, air couriers, and other third parties who generate documents on your company’s behalf
-
Legal considerations: investigations, discovery, attorney-client privilege
