Between Two Turns
LiDar (Li detection and ranging) data is location data. If you’ve seen a semi-autonomous car before, you’ve probably seen a LiDAR sensor. LiDAR enables a semi-autonomous car to detect surroundings with lasers; it can be used to create 3D elevation maps to help farmers to increase efficiency and it can be used to visualize buildings on a map in really high detail to showcase your real estate portfolio.
In this webinar, Allan Walker, Engineer, Mapbox, will run through the process of adding color values from orthoimagery raster data to LIDAR Point Clouds and visualize that data using Mapbox GL JS and Deck.gl.
We’ll have some fun using a very familiar landmark as an example.
Be entertained while learning how to:
- Add the color from orthoimagery rasters using gdal2xyz
 - Source LIDAR from open data
 - Visualize LIDAR with Mapbox GL JS and Deck.gl
