Who Draws the Lines - Monitoring Developments in Redistricting
Redistricting will have a major impact on the political landscape heading into 2022 and on the balance of power in the House for the next decade. Based on the findings from the 2020 census, the battle to redraw political maps across the country is in full swing.
This webinar will provide an overview of who draws congressional districts, how the redistricting process works in various states, and early projections that can be made on the outcome.
To help you plan for changes to come, the speakers will:
- Discuss political strategies applied by both parties
- Explain terms such as “colorblind maps,” “racial gerrymandering,” and “communities of interest”
- Zoom in on states that lost or gained congressional seats (Florida, New York), that use commissions to draw the maps (Arizona, California), and where minorities made significant population gains (Texas)
