Cybersecurity Summit

The 2013 National Defense Authorization Act and recent moves by the Homeland Security Department illustrate that cybersecurity will be a major national security concern this year. The defense bill overhauls software testing methods and consolidates contracts across services. DHS has announced that it will help civilian agencies fund the technology and expertise needed for threat detection and is working to protect cyber security efforts from budget cuts.

But there is much more work to be done. Proposals to encourage the public-private sharing of information on cyber threats have stalled in Congress, and the role and scope of U.S. Cyber Command continues to evolve.
